giardino della fattoria di Montopoli
data 2005
Montopoli Val d'Arno
I did this garden together with Paolo Chellini, head gardener to the Principi Corsini. When we arrived it had been totally overgrown with bay trees and quercus ilex seedlings. We took most out and created large beds with acid soil for the azaleas, camellias and hortensias
I am very proud of this piece of concrete:-) that thanks to a special casting technique allowed adiantum capillum veneris to grow immediately
the pool needed a 'quinta' so i had the idea of a pool house playing with tuscan rural 16th architectural styles. in order not to make it look like a total fake I enjoyed the use of contemporary concrete a lot.
the pool being on top of the old town was was complicated as these needed to be expensively reinforced. the inside is tiled with dark grey grès and the overflowing border is yellow concrete made to match the local lime stone of Montopoli. Also the pillars of the bathhouse are yellow concrete with rustic capitelli made from old bricks
